Historical Background
- Began in 1989 by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department as a recruiting tool
- Average attendance 200 High School participants per year representing 45 High Schools
- Purpose of E-State
- To positively impact high school students and create an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
- To offer students experiences a hands-on, in-depth view of engineering using the strategies and tools of today’s engineers
- Give students the opportunity to work with world class faculty Biological (BE), Civil and Environmental (CEE), Computer Science (CS), Electrical & Computer Engineering ( ECE), Engineering Education (EED), Mechanical and Aerospace (MAE) Engineering
- Students have opportunities to explore future careers.
Demographics
- 43 school districts were represented
- Four charter schools were represented
- 205 High School juniors and seniors attended
- 26 % of the attendees were female
- 15 Corporate Sponsors
- Faculty from all 6 departments donates time to conducted challenge sessions.

Student Qualifications
- High school students are encouraged to be in junior year of study
- Have a strong interest in math, science, engineering or technology
- Display social responsibility
- Have a good scholastic record
