Chimaera & SWE Outreach

Chimaera, better known as "The Rocket Team", hosted Girl Scout Day on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in the Engineering Building at Utah State.  Girl Scouts from across Cache Valley were invited to the event, where they worked to earn their Society of Women Engineers Girl Scout patch.

Engineering students from The Rocket Team were assisted by members of the USU SWE chapter.  They showed the Girl Scouts that engineering is fun!.  Some of the things they learned include:  surface tension while playing with a giant pool of bubbles, testing tin foil boats for surface area, and mixing and understanding what Non-Newtonian fluids are and how they are used.

Their civil engineering experience including building spaghetti bridges and paper towers.  They also learned about constellations.  Another exciting activity was making film canister & Alka Seltzer rockets.  All the Girl Scouts learned a lot about engineering, and had a great time!
