ETE Professor named New Faculty Fellow

Oenardi Lawanto, Assistant Professor in the ETE Department, was recently named a New Faculty Fellow (NFF) by the National Academy of Engineering – Center for the Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education (NAE-CASEE) at the 39th Annual Frontiers in Education Conference (FIE).

CASEE is the first operating center of the NAE, and is dedicated to  excellence in engineering education. The FIE Conference is an annual, international event focused on improving education in computer science, engineering, and technology. Sponsors were ASEE, IEEE, and the IEEE Computer Society. Conference host was Texas A&M University.

The conference addressed a variety of topics including: design experiences: senior capstone, distance learning: methods, technologies, and assessment, first year courses and programs, globalization: preparing faculty and students, graduate curricula and programs, innovative engineering and CS courses and labs, K-12 initiatives and partnerships, learning models, undergraduate research experiences, uses of technology in the classroom, among others.

In all, eight registration and travel grants were awarded this year. A rigorous peer review of each applicant’s conference paper, nomination letters and professional résumé was completed. Each fellow presented a conference paper and participants shared their thoughts and ideas about the future of engineering education. Posters were displayed at the Focus on Exhibits. Fellows were recognized at the FIE Awards Banquet, and conference travel grants were awarded.
