Freshmen Experience

Developing Introductory Engineering Curriculum
Dr. Gary Stewardson

Dr. Stewardson with Engineering Students"Freshmen Experience" is the process of acclimating oneself in a new social and academic environment during the freshman year to insure success. We are in the process of redefining and developing the freshman experience for engineering majors. A key element of this new vision is the freshman course, Introduction to Engineering Design. A positive freshman experience will increase student retention in the program and the quality of graduates.

K-12 Curriculum

NCETE Center
Dr. Kurt Becker

The ultimate goal of the National Center for Engineering and Technology Education (NCETE) is to infuse engineering design, program solving and analytical skills into K-12 schools through technDr. Becker Presentingology education. This will increase the quality, Dr. Stewardson with Engineering Studentsquantity, and diversity of engineering and technology educators, and will significantly strengthen the pathways to engineering and technology professions for students. The Center is doing this by teaming engineering faculty and technology education faculty in a systematic approach that involves:  - Building a community of researchers, leaders, and PhD students to conduct research in emerging engineering education areas.  - Creating a body of research that improves our understanding of learning and teaching engineering and technology subjects.  - Preparing technology education teachers at the BS and MS level who can infuse engineering design into the curriculum.  - Strengthening the pathways for a diverse population of students who select engineering, science, mathematics and technology careers.
