Biography

Dr. Berke studies the mechanical characterization of solids and structures in challenging environments, and at high temperatures in particular. He is especially interested in the role that environment plays on a material's ability to withstand heterogeneous failure mechanisms such as fracture, fatigue, and creep. His lab uses advanced imaging techniques to extract full-field, in situ deformation and strain measurements across temperature, time, and length scales.

Solid Mechanics: Thermo-mechanical loading, fracture, fatigue, creep, environmental effects. | Advanced Material Systems: High temperature materials, multi-scale structures, advance energy systems, aerospace vehicles, nuclear structural materials, accident tolerant fuels. | Experimental Methods: High temperature measurements, in-situ methods, resonant ultrasound microscopy, 2-D and 3-D digital image correlation, vibration-based fatigue testing, high-throughput techniques.
