Director’s Message

Greg Anderson

In the first year-and-a-half, the Center and Master of Science degree program have made great progress. Four outstanding graduates have earned the Composite Materials MS degree and are employed using the knowledge and skills they gained from our program.

The Center has expanded from its initial emphasis on composite materials to include additive manufacturing, experimental solid mechanics in extreme temperature environments, high-entropy alloys, energy-storage materials and stimuli-responsive elastomers.

Through the beneficence of private donors and companies, we now have a scholarship endowment fund, a broad range of materials for class and project use, and highly experienced guest lecturers aiding in teaching.

The Center continues to expand collaborations with industry and government partners. USU recently finalized a new education agreement with Hill Air Force Base, and we are expanding internship opportunities with corporate partners such as 47G and one of our core partners UAMMI — Utah Advanced Materials Manufacturing Initiative

Our faculty are making meaningful advances in their teaching and research programs. We recently welcomed our newest faculty member, Dr. Dae Hun Sung, who brings valuable expertise in experimental analysis of composite materials. We welcome Dae Hun and we commend all our faculty for their ongoing commitment to quality teaching and mentorship.

We look forward to continued growth and new collaborations across our academic and research programs and industry partnerships. If you can, please join us April 13th for our official Center kick-off celebration and our first professional development conference for composites pros here on campus and around Utah.
