Aeronautics - Study Materials

Format

  • The exam consists of about 10 problems
  • A passing score is at least 80%
  • The exam is paper and pencil only
  • Calculators are allowed including graphing calculators
  • The exam is open book for the two text books listed:
    • “Fundamentals of Aerodynamics” by John Anderson
    • “Mechanics of Flight” by Warren Phillips
  • The exam is closed notes
  • The exam format is similar to the exams given in MAE 5500

  • “Fundamentals of Aerodynamics” 6th Edition by John Anderson
    • Chapters 1 – 6
  • “Mechanics of Flight” 2nd Edition by Warren Phillips
    • Chapters 1 and 3

Advice

  • It is recommended that you work the example problems within the chapters, as well as many of the homework problems at the end of the chapters to ensure you understand the material.
  • Because the exam is time limited, looking information up in the textbook can be time-consuming. You should have a firm grasp on where to find specific subjects within the text books in order to minimize the time required to find them during the exam.
